If you want to have a productive day, nothing prepares you better than a good morning routine, both at home and at the office. While we’re all more inclined to hit the snooze button a few more times than we care to admit during the winter months, formulating a routine, and sticking to it, is key to kickstarting a successful day.
If you want to have a productive day, nothing prepares you better than a good morning routine, both at home and at the office. While we’re all more inclined to hit the snooze button a few more times than we care to admit during the winter months, formulating a routine, and sticking to it, is key to kickstarting a successful day. However, it is important to remember that everyone is different, so the same things that work for you may not work for everyone else in your office. In light of this, here are a few suggestions to consider for your morning routine to ensure you get the start you need to have a productive day at work.
Each night, before you go to bed, make a list of everything that needs to get done the following day. Include everything from reading through the suggestions box at work to making sure the kids get to ballet or soccer practice on time. By taking a few minutes to do this every night, you could save yourself a lot of time and stress in the morning, and being able to tick off tasks as you go along will motivate you to be more productive.
When you know you’ve got a busy day coming up at work, it’s important that you get through as much as you can in the first part of the day, as research has suggested that this is when we operate at our peak performance level. Rank your tasks in order of importance and then work your way from the top of the list down. Of course, it helps if you have the right tools, as they will allow for a more efficient workflow, so make sure you have the best of the best at your disposal. For example, if you’re an accountant, you need to be able to work with accounting software that is accurate and won’t let you down.
Always eat breakfast
Your mother wasn’t lying when she told you that breakfast is the most important meal of the day. Eating breakfast daily will kickstart your metabolism and leave you feeling more energised, thus creating the perfect foundation from which to launch a successful day. Make sure that your daily breakfasts are as balanced as possible and don’t contain too much sugar, as this could later lead to a sudden crash in energy levels.
Don’t rush around
While this may seem counter-intuitive, try and avoid rushing around in the mornings. Rather take things as they come or wake up a bit earlier to ensure you get everything you want to get done while still arriving at work on time. Oftentimes, we get so caught up in everything that we need to do that we lose track of time and end up having to complete everything in a hurry. Not only does this create an environment with more room for error, but it also leaves us feeling flustered and uses up a lot more of our energy than is really necessary – something which could later lead to depeleted levels of energy.
Everyone is different, so someone might have a completely different routine to your own, yet it’s right for them and their needs. Find what works for you and stick to that – before long, you’ll be surprised at how much more productive and successful your days become.
