Everything has a beginning – even the largest and most successful companies had to start somewhere. What began as a small venture into the business software industry, soon grew into one of South Africa’s leading developer of accounting, payroll and business management software. Here’s a brief look at how Sage One Accounting came to be and how it’s managed to make its mark on the business world in a very short time.
Back to the beginning
Softline was founded by Ivan Epstein, Alan Osrin and Steven Cohen in 1988. They had a vision to simplify the lives of business owners by providing them with intelligent software that would help them manage their businesses quickly, easily and efficiently… and so they did. What started out as a big idea (and a R1500 loan), grew to become a booming business dedicated to playing an important role in building sustainable and prosperous businesses.
In 2003, Softline was acquired by The Sage Group plc, a UK-based company formed in 1981. This was a step in the right direction as Sage is a well—established company with years of experience in the world of business management software, and by coming under its wing, Softline would continue to soar and further strengthen its reputation within the industry. RenamedSage Pastel Accounting, it has gone on to garner an in-depth knowledge and understanding of the industry, and is the preferred choice for small to medium businesses. Today, Sage boasts over six million customers across 24 countries.
Sage One Accounting
2009 saw the launch of Sage Pastel’s first online accounting offering, known as Sage Pastel My Business Online. Last year, the product was re-launched with the name Sage One Accounting. Developed in South Africa specifically for South African businesses, it continues to help small to medium-sized businesses simplify their accounting. As a business owner, you’re able to track the various financial processes within the business (sales, purchases, cash movements etc), all the while having the freedom to run your business from wherever you are. The Cloud-based software allows you to log on anytime, anywhere, with the guarantee that you’re always be working on the latest versions of data that are stored and protected 24/7. Nothing could be simpler and more effective.
Sage One’s purpose, ethos and R&D philosophy
Sage One has become one of South Africa’s most trusted business management systems and there are many reasons for this. However, the main one has to be that from the beginning, Sage Pastel has always thought “beyond accounting”. Through knowledge and understanding of business, as well as an intense desire to support growing businesses through various means, it is dedicated to ensuring that it provides the necessary assistance businesses need to become successful, sustainable businesses. The company recognises that every business is unique and therefore requires different tools in order to succeed – and these are constantly changing in an ever-evolving technological world. Research and development are highly valued simply because by investing in research, it is able to keep its finger on the pulse, stay on top of the latest trends and therefore advise businesses accordingly. The end result: businesses receive the guidance they need to grow, strengthen and ultimately, reach their goals of success.
